About
the Story
"Once
upon a time." We can all finish that sentence one way or another.
It may be a good memory, or it may be a memory that we would rather
forget. Nonetheless, memories of the past are something we can never
erase. We may be proud of our past accomplishments, or wish we would
have done things differently. The good news is that the future is
within everyone's grasp! Your thoughts today determine your tomorrow,
a chance for a new beginning.
"Challenge From The
Heart" The Donna Marie Garze Story, is a non-fictional, inspirational
film about the trials and tribulations of a young woman who experiences
more pain and suffering in a single year then most people contend
with in a lifetime.
Donna
Marie's life begins as any typical individual; good childhood, marriage
to her high school sweethear, and a good job. However, things
take a terrible change when Donna Marie takes a casual fall at work
and the results will changer her life forever. Forty-plus
operations, and many years of pain, there is only one thing that
can be done... Donna Marie must have her left leg amputated.
She has
an extremely difficult time adjusting to her "new body",
and eventually turns to alcohol and drugs to ease the pain.
All the while, her life is crumbling right before her eyes.
Not only is her husband having an affair with her best friend, but
she begins to alleviate herself from family and friends with thoughts
turning towards suicide. Donna Marie begins to feel so depressed
and hopeless that she observes two paranormal occurences that her
priest affirms was Jesus coming to her. This reaffirms her
belief in religion. Most people tend to think that everything
happens in life for a purpose. Perhaps Donna Marie's purpose
was to first find a hidden talent... golf. This eventually
leads to golfing lessons, then tournaments; thus building back her
self-confidence and savoring each morning as a new beginning.
This provides Donna Marie with the opportunity to make a permanent
impression on people with her "never say never" attitude
and refusal to accept the word "no" into her vocabulary.
Happily, Donna Marie today continues her journey to the top.
Currently
ranked one of the top amputee golfers in the world, she has appeared
in numerous newspapers and national magazines. She has used
her good fortune and new lease on life to inspired others in her
situation to do the same. Donna Marie travels the country
giving inspiration speeches, hoping to reach those who are in their
darkest time, like she herself was so many years ago. In a
world filled with violence, greed, and hatred, Donna Marie is a
true role-model. Not only has she succeeded completely turning
around her life, but she has a certain spark in her eye that showcases
her zest for life and undying excitement for the simple pleasure
of living.

About
the Production
The script
for "Challenge From The Heart" was written by Donna Marie
Garze, Gayle Voytush and Judy Martini. For almost ten years,
they pitched their story to many individuals and networks.
After many rejections, their hope of sharing Donna Marie's story
in hopes of inspiring those who had similar harships had deminished.
However, sfter Judy worked with Sherry Teleky Waple for the second
time on the set of "Obsession", Martini pitched the story
to Waple, who was intrigued. After reading the script, Waple
was on board. However, with no financing in place, the script
would have to be cut down to a short so as to give two options if
funding could not be found. Waple and Martini acquired the
talented writing skills of Stanley Jacobs to pen the short and within
a week, there was now a feature and short to work with. A
preliminary budget has been drawn up for both scripts and financial
backing is being sought. This is truly an amazing story that
really needs to be told in it's entirety and the best way to do
that is by producing a feature.
At this
time, GHP has recently sent the script to Nancy McKeon to see her
interest in playing the role of Donna Marie. Many of you may
know Nancy as "Jo" from The Facts of Life."
GHP has recently secured the acting talents of Tony Becker (Tour
of Duty/Waltons) for the role of Sam; Terence Knox (Tour of Duty/Children
of the Corn II) for the role of Lou; and David Birney (St. Elsewhere)
for the role of Father Kreski. GHP is still awaiting word
regarding Nancy McKeon.
On May 20, 2006 Golden
Horse Productions attended the Spirit of Hope golf tournament to
see Donna Marie's achievements first hand. There were 106
golfers in attendance, many of which were amputees. World
reknown Australian amputee golfer Graham Cox was in attendance to
show his support for this worthy cause. It was amazing to
see so many individuals striving together to raise funds for the
Spirit of Hope Foundation which was formed by Donna Marie in hopes
of helping others. By being at this tournament, it motivated
Producer Waple even more to bring this project to frutation.
Waple addressed those in attendance: "This is a very
inspiration story that would be beneficial to everyone no matter
what their place in life. It is a story of hope, courage and
determination. These are all things that everyone needs at
some point in their life and that is why we want to share Donna
Marie's story with the world. By getting her story on film,
you are no only fulling her life's dream, you could be saving a
life that may be at that darkest house as Donna Marie was so many
year ago. To me, there is no greater gift." And
Waple is right, there is no greater gift then helping those in need.
